Dear Members and Observers of the Conference of European Data Protection Authorities,
Dear Colleagues,

The Croatian DPA regrets to inform you that the Conference of European Data Protection Authorities 2020 is postponed for May 2021 due to the outbreak of the COVID-19.

In accordance with the Rules and Procedures of the Conference of European Data Protection Authorities, the Accreditation and Support Committee decided that the Conference will be held in May 2021 in Croatia, Cavtat, as it was planned this year.

We would also like to highlight that we have re-established a working group looking at the Future of the Conference, and the work of this group will continue between now and the Conference in 2021. The group is comprised of representatives from Croatia, UK, EDPS, Germany, Switzerland, Netherlands, and the two previous hosts, Albania and Georgia.

To inform the group’s thinking, members of the Conference can expect to receive a short survey in the coming months; your answers will help us draft proposals for the Conference’s future purpose and direction, and we thank you in anticipation for engaging in this exercise.

Stay safe and healthy!

We look forward to welcome you in Cavtat in May 2021!

30th edition of the Conference of European Data Protection Authorities

Welcome

Dear Conference participants,

We are honored to cordially invite you to the jubilary 30th edition of the Conference of European Data Protection Authorities which will be held in Croatia, May 13-14, 2021, in the beautiful city of Cavtat - Dubrovnik, located along the breath-taking Adriatic coast.

It is a great honour and privilege for the Croatian Personal Data Protection Agency to host the Spring Conference for the first time, since this Conference is the most important forum for co-operation, strategic coordination and policies of data protection and privacy among European regulatory authorities.

As we are all aware, we live in a data driven world. In order to realize the full potential of the digital economy; governments, the private sector, and civil society need to cooperate to achieve an appropriate balance that respects the fundamental rights of individuals and allows continued innovation and growth of evolutionary digital business models.

However, the more data is used in our everyday life, the higher the risks of abuses. Thus, it is crucial to ensure and enhance data and privacy protection. Every day there are new challenges for us ponder and respond to. Data Protection Authorities play a key role in this important task.

We have so much to learn from each other, and this also emphasizes why this Conference is such a valuable opportunity for us as a forum for exchanging ideas and advancing the privacy interests of our citizens.

During the Spring Conference 2021, representatives of the data protection authorities will have the opportunity to share their experience and create new values, as well as to come into contact with experts in the field and to meet old and hopefully new collaborators and friends.

The event will take off with a reception at the Hotel Croatia- Cavtat during late afternoon and evening of 12th May, and the gala dinner will be held on 13th May.

Cavtat is well known for its natural beauty, cultural heritage and the multitudes of top-class accommodations. In addition, it is only 15 km away from Croatia's world famous tourist destination of Dubrovnik which will be part of the cultural agenda that we are arranging on 14th May.

This provides a convenient and memorable experience for both a top level conference and an unmatched experience outside of conference sessions.

We will provide an extraordinary collaborative environment to give prominence to unrealized opportunities and to tackle common or unforeseen challenges, e.g. the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on GDPR implementation, Artificial Intelligence, Big data, profiling under the framework of the GDPR, Brexit and its ramifications for the data protection, online manipulation and disinformation in the context of free and transparent elections, the misuse of personal data on social networks, interplay between the ePrivacy Directive and the GDPR etc.

We are fully prepared, excited and expecting to set the standard for high level conferences. Therefore, don’t miss this event!

We look forward to welcome you in Croatia next May!
